The human resource management process is about people. You need to find the right ones, hire them, provide training, and evaluate them to see how well they are doing. This process may seem simple at first glance but it is not.
Your human resource management process will have a huge impact on the individuals on whom you will be placing the responsibility for the success of your business. Take a look at the process and why great care must be taken at every stage.
Starting The Human Resource Management Process
Before you do anything, you will need people to manage. While you may not be starting from scratch in the human resource management process it is helpful to act as though you are. You need to design job descriptions that clearly state what you need from the employees that you will hire.
If you do not have a precise job description for them then they will not know exactly what is expected. This is a big risk. Before you do anything else, make sure that your job descriptions are clear, up-to-date, and describe exactly what you need.
Recruit Applicants
You can go one of two ways when it comes to recruiting applicants in the human resource management process. You can just go for numbers and sort through a large pool of applicants or you can target individuals who are likely to be real contenders. The latter is ideal but as long as you are willing to take the time to sort through applicants until you find the right one then either will work.
Job Interviews
Before you conduct job interviews in person or over the phone you want to know exactly what you’re looking for. Know what level of education you need in a prospective employee and what level might be even better but not entirely necessary. Know how much experience this individual will need and what type of experience as well. Know everything else that you need or want in a potential employee so that you can see who is a possible choice and who is not right off the bat.
Training Employees
Training employees is all about providing direction. Training is an opportunity for you to show your employees exactly what to do and how to do it so that they can be the perfect employees that you want them to be. You cannot always provide all the training necessary, but giving the training that you can will have your employees and your business headed in the right direction.
Assessing Employees
You want to regularly assess employees to see how they are performing. More training may be necessary or other steps may need to be taken to ensure that the job is getting done.
The human resource management process is worth the investment of time and effort because it will help to give you the right employees. The right employees with the right training will give you more of the right results when you get around to assessing their work. That’s what the human resource management process is all about.
